Sony Str-da2400es - No sound from surround back when 3/3.1

Has anyone else got the following "issue" ? ... and sorted it out ?

I've set up the amp using auto calibration. I previously had a Yamaha 7.1 amp., and I've got a 6.1 set-up (limited space behind the seating position makes 2 back speakers a bit silly). The Sony correctly identified the single back amp. (connected to left), and Speaker Pattern shows 3/3.1.

I've fired up Hellboy II. The front dsplay shows both SBR and SBL (without a box), and a box between them. So (as far as I understand it), it's downmixing the SBR and SBL into a single back channel. My Sony BDP-S550 shows it's outputting Master Audi 5/2.1, and the amp. shows it's decodingMaster Auudio 3/4.1.

However, there's no sound from the back - and the box on the display doesn't have SB in it. When I change te Pattern to 3/4.1, the front display changes to put boxes around SBR and SBL, removes the middle box, and I get sound from the back speaker.

I can't think what's going on with the lack of 6.1 - any ideas ?

I have a simliar problem with Hellboy 2 with my Pana BD35 and Denon 1909.

DTS MA 7.1 is the input, DTS MA is the output with 6.1 speakers activated. (I only have 6.1). My single rear has no sound but is activated. Reading elsewhere there maybe a batch flaw from Universal. I may go and rent it out to see if its consistant. My other DTS MA 7.1 ÿdiscs play ok. ÿ

I bought this yesterday and have come across something very similar with my Pioneer BDP-LX71 and VSX-LX50 (connected with a QED HDMI-P cable). I have a 7.0 speaker set-up and I can NOT get the disc to output 7-channel sound, although the receiver says it is decoding DTS-HD MA.

I have gone through the set-up for both the blu-ray player and the receiver but I can't see anything wrong with either. Baffled!
