I'm currently running a Sony STR DH800 with bi-amped Kef Q3.5 floorstanders as well as a Mission c77 (I know, I know... Should be a Kef to match the fronts...!) and Monitor audio bookshelf speakers.

CDs are played currently through a Sony BDP S360. The Blu-Ray player is slow to boot and, I would guess, not great for CD playback.

I have a fairly old (from 1999-2000?) Rotel CD deck which is currently on loan to my brother (and has been for about 5 years). I could get this back (though I'd feel a bit guilty even if it is mine!) or I could look at the Sony SCD-XE800 which would (possibly) itegrate with my sony stuff better and would work with the same remote.

Any thoughts? Anyone with any experience of the Sony SCD-XE800?

TimBot,

I also just saw this SACD player today (and your post) as i was looking for a cheap SACD player to compliment the new Onkyo TX-8050 for a friend as a possible seperates alternative to a Marantz CR-603. Does anyone think the Onkyo/Sony would be a good alternative to the Marantz?

Appreciate any feedback and experience with this Sony SCD-XE800 disc spinner.

Regards, TnA

TimBot,

OK a quick bit of online research shows that this player does not have multi-channel 5.1, and it is a discontinued model according to the Sony website. Even though I think it came out in 2010!

So I think my Sony SCD-XE597 might be the way to go, even if it costs a fraction more.

SCD-XE597 (SCDXE597, SCDXE597.CEK) : Home audio : Sony

I know I answered my own question. But sometimes creating a bit of extra time allows you to do your own research! :)
