Sony Question

Hi All,

First - Sorry this is another "Will this work with...." question =/

I am totally new to the home cinema thing but id like to get a system that will be compatible with a TV,Xbox 360 , PS3 and at some point a stand alone Blu-Ray player - Would the Sony STR-DG820 7.1 Channel Receiver be ok for this use ? And could anyone suggest a speaker package for it

Yup, Sony will be fine for this. What's your budget for speakers and are you looking for style packages or will traditional boxy speakers be okay?

Well ideally id like at least 2 floor standing speakers, My budget should be around £350 - £500 - Is this realistic for decent sound ?

Hmm, at your budget, I would recommend the Q Acoustics 1010i package, though this doesn't have floorstanders. The 1050i package does, but this is a bit above budget. Of course you could get the 1010i package, then at a later date upgrade the fronts to 1050is and move the 1010is to surround back position for a 7.1 system...
There's this Tannoy package but I haven't heard it...

I know this is nothing like I asked about but seems like a bargain for a Bose system... Any good do you know ?

Not a clue I'm afraid. However, because it's a style system, I'm very confident the 1010i package would sound much better (style speakers look less obtrusive but there is a compromise in sound for this).
