can anyone give me an idea of settings to check on these 2 to ensure i am watching blu rays and playing games at 1080p. there are so many options (that i dont understand) and sometimes blu rays dont look all that brilliant. i dont want the colour and contrast etc settings on the tv, just the basic to ensure im getting what ive paid for

Well, to ensure you're PS3 is outputting 1080p, go to Display Settings > Video Output Settings and make sure 1080p is ticked. If it isn't, it's possible the PS3 has detected that your TV won't display 1080p so might be worth going through the setup again for this, or choosing Custom and forcing the 1080p output to be ticked. I did this (as my display is HD Ready, but accepts 1080p fine) and this worked okay.
