Sony KDL46W5500 vs 5710?????

I went into the Sony Centre (Merry Hill) today to ask if they had a 40 or 46 W5500 I could look at. They said no but they did have a 40W5710.

 I hadn't heard of the 5710 series, so looked it up on Sony's website when I got home...... and its not on there!!!!

Bizarrely tho, you can order them from the Sony Style site?!?!

 The 46W5500 and 46W5710 are exactly the same price and look identical (unfortunately you can't compare the tech specs on the Style site)

I've googled 5710 and its not listed on any UK sites, so I'm guessing its just a European version of the 5500..... but if thats the case, why would a UK Sony Centre be selling them?

 Anyone have any ideas?

It's exactly the same, just that the 5710 has a silver strip along the bottom of the set.

i could be wrong, but i think they make this set for John Lewis to sell rather than the W5500, probably so John Lewis don't have to price match the W5500 with online prices, as they pledge they can do with any product.

Yes, that's correct, it's actually the speaker grill at the bottom of the TV.

John Lewis does do this for some TV's, i.e. they did it for the previuos model KDL-40W4500 (KDL-40W4710), now they are doing it on the KDL-40W5500 (KDL-40W5710), I expect they'll do it when they get the 46" ones in stock too. The TV's are exactly the same apart from this cosmetic difference.

Saying that though my local Sony centre does it as well for the new 40" 5500 model.

John Lewis will price match their KDL-40W5710 against the KDL-40W5500 in another shop (not an online store), becuase they are doing it for me when a certain shop gets them in stock.

Exactly the same TV apart from the minor cosmetic difference and, yes, many Sony Centres are stocking the 5710s and the 5500s.

Couldn't they just put B for black and S for silver after the reference number?????
