It's been a bit heated since I've been gone!

Anyway, just picked up my TV a few days ago - it's beautiful!

I followed a guide on avsforum but it seemed to wash out the colours too much. I've played around a bit the settings as this is where I've got to:

Backlight 7

Contrast 80

Brightness 50

Colour 50

Hue 0

Colour Temp Neutral

Sharpness 65

Noise Reduction Low

MPEG Red Low

Motionflow Clear

Film Mode Auto 1

Advanced Settings

Everything Off (except LED Dynamic Control - Standard)

Hi, looks close to what I started with. I think that I did experience a run in period over three to four weeks, where the picture got better and better. It might have been me just getting used to the TV, but I'm sure it got even better. I did feel I had to make a few change after a while. Have you run a THX setup disk yet? I always found it set the brightness to low. Hope you enjoy your new TV. I bet you wanted it for Christmas?

In the 3D options (press option on the remote and choose 3D) I would set glasses brightness to high at all times due to the amount of light lost wearing them. (this is also why contrast is at max)

For playing games/computer use, I would put gamma up to -1. (2.20 gamma instead of 2.35) -2 is correct for film/tv watching in a darkened room.

While I recommend sticking to the Warm 1/2 presets, if you want to try it, my custom settings are:
2D, Warm 1 with: 0,-4,-10,-4,+1,0. 3D, Warm 1 with: 0,-6,-20,+1,0,+4.

I recommend just sticking to the white balance presets listed above, but these settings may result in a closer match between 2D and 3D. (but could be less accurate overall on your individual set) .

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've changed my Motionflow to Clear and Colour to 65.

I'm getting close.......

Jase Brown: I think that I did experience a run in period over three to four weeks, where the picture got better and better.

My sony was awful when I first played a dvd on it using my (then) pioneer dvd player

After a week it looked far better

I'm currently looking for a new TV for the living room. I've currently got a 28" CRT which gives a good picture and fits in the limited space I have. Having done lots of reading, I thought I'd get the Philips 32" 9705 - all the reviews said it was excellent. However, I read the WhatHiFi review and their opinion was very different to all the others.

I wouldn't buy such an expensive product without seeing it for myself (so far proving very difficult), but this contrast in opinions rammed the point home to me. For the average Joe (i.e. me), a TV may well look excellent, but the WhatHiFi team get to see the creme of the crop so what they think is average would be fabulous to me, but you can't ignore expert opinion.

I like dark films (Batman, Payback, Man bites dog etc) so the darks are quite important to me, so I thought I'd benefit from full LED backlighting (as opposed to edge), and there don't seem to be many 32" (which is all I can fit in the space available - about 77cm) which have this feature. Really don't envisage watching 3d at home for a very long time (and if I do, I'll get a bigger and better setup in a different room).

But tomorrow, after some really constructive advice from people on this forum, I'm off to my local Sony shop to see what they have to offer. In a way I'm thinking I should hold off until the new Sony models just announced come out - either because they're better, or the existing models will drop in price - how long does it usually take for CES-announced models to become available in the shops?

Sorry for the slight derail (and rather rambly at that!), but really it was just meant to say that it's horses for courses, and all our eyes are different (does anyone else wonder if we all see the same colour when we look at something (say) red?).

Regards

I didn't just imagine it then. I thought it defiantly got better over the weeks. I think your never really sure of your settings. All media's filmed in different styles and you can't resist twiddling.

P.S sorry for our crossed words before. Shouldn't post from a hot bath. :)
