Hi

I've had the Sony BDPS 550 for about 18 months. I really like the idea of the 370 as it's got iPlayer and other internet stuff. If I changed to this model would I see a drop in BD quality ? I notice it's £134.49 online - half the price I paid for mine, but I guess BD players have become more affordable...

thanks

I am in a similar position to you. I have had the Panasonic DMP-BD30 for a while now and was thinking of upgrading to the sony bdp-s370, but dont want to be dropping on picture quality. I cant really answer your question, it may be down to personal choice. According to WhatHifi review this month the picture and sound quality on this machine is stunning, and the highly rated sony bdp-s760 dropped a star because of this new model of Sony. It might be worth holding back till the other more expensive models are released in the upcoming months. I think this is the best bang for buck you will get just now in terms of quality per pound.

dont think you will have a drop in sound or image.you will only lose the 5.1 analogue outs and win in everything else.

Hmm - actually Richer Sounds are doing it for £109.95 if you trade in an old DVD player or £120 otherwise. Mind you, I'll never buy from them as they won't deliver.

I guess I should wait but then I'll get less for the 550 second hand. Probably can't go wrong with the 370 though. I only went for the 550 as I needed multi channel outs which I don't any more. A model 18 months' newer is quite probably better quality...

the buttons on the front display of the S370 are a bit flimsy. better build on the s550.

Thanks - I no longer need the multi channel outputs as have bought a new amp since purchasing it..

I'm in the same boat mate

With the review, I think the Sony 370 should produce a better sound/picture qulaity than both of our 550, but is it a better jump to make in terms of performace? Can What hifi clarify this please

If the 370 is better than the 760, how can it not be better than the 550 which is a previous generation model?

I had the 370, was not impressed at all and have now replaced it with a pioneer 320.

The 370 looks like a kiddy toy and the buttons are even tiny by a baby's standard.

Well everything is build to a price now isn't it? Not too bothered how the machine looks - it'll be in a cabinet behind a glass door. I'll probably only ever use the eject button as will use the remote. It's the features and quality I'm more interested in.

Everything getting cheap and plasticy - I bought a Black & Deck cordless drill as it was 20% off - it looks and sounds like something my two-year-old would play with !

I have the S370 and I'm more than pleased with both the sound and vision. However, i have gone from DVD player to Blu-ray. So i cannot comment how it compares to anything else. But its a personal choice i quess.

I think the 370 is a good buy, think Im just going to go for it. At the end of the day, a blu ray picture on any similarly priced machine is going to have very minimal differences in picture quality. I think its more the features and build quality you pay for now.
