Sony BDP-s550 blu ray player problem/ fault

My sony is now out of warranty however it has developed a fault; it stops playing the blu ray disc (or sometines DVD) about half way through . This happens on new clean discs as well as those 'great condition' rentals. It does not always occur but is annoying . Tends to happen once every other film. Any suggestions ? Could the heat sink be faulty ?

Its unlikely but try updating the firmware, if that doesnt help then sadly I would bin it! (unless you feel happy to open it up and check for any blatent fault).
