I am looking to purchase my first blu-ray player and after reading the recent Awards issue was keen on the above model (S370). However I see from various forums that there can be sound drop out issues when it is connected directly to a Sony W series TV (which as luck would have it is exactly what I own - I am not interested in buying any separate sound processing equipment).

I have been looking for up-to-date news on this but have so far failed to find anything - i.e. I'm not sure if this has been sorted out by Sony yet. If yes, then I would certainly buy one but if no:-

Which other model / manufacturer should I consider - my budget is approx £200 (including good quality HDMI cable). Many thanks, Brian.

Have got the Sony BDP-S370 and a Sony KDL40 W4000 tv and to be honest have had NO issues with sound drop outs on DVD or Blu Ray... although my surround sound is an elderly prologic JBL ESC200 and doesnt have the facility to use HDMI to connect to the Sony 370 blu ray player (I use QED interconnects)

Please dont quote me on this but I think some of the sound drop out issues may concern the use of HDMI , I know there is a thread on here describing the sound drop issues.

The player itself ...... Astounding quality for little cost and introduced me to the world of bluray.

Sorry should mentioned in my original post that the blu ray player will be connected to the TV via HDMi and playback will be through the TV speakers - no surround sound system.

Any other comments ?
