Sony 820 and Tannoy F1 better than a budget amp and speaker package?

I'm thinking of buying the Sony STR-DG820 and Tannoy Mercury F1 customs for my fronts. And using my existing Kef Coda 8 for the rears and Mission 73C as my centre. Sub would be a £50 cheapo from Richer Sounds or ebay if I decide to get one. Total cost is £310 (plus sub).

Alternative was the Onkyo TX-SR507 with Jamo A102HCS5 at £510.

Could I easily justify the £200 saving for my bedroom set up of Sony 40V4000 and PS3?

Straight to the point, I like it!

Do you think the sound quality will be much improved over the Onkyo and Jamos?

I didn't really want to have large rear or centre speakers but for the saving, I'm willing to be flexible on that.

for me sony sound is very good . for music also.i also like onkyo sound.but for reliability not so sure.as for the speakers, real speakers will suit you for everything in the future.

The Sony and Tannoy's music abilities are another plus point. I know the Tannoys will be good, was unsure about the Kefs and Missions compared to the Jamos.

The centre speaker is an existing speaker that my Dad had in his old set up, its over 10years old now. The Tannoy Mecury FC is going for £50 in Richer Sounds so would be a possibility as well.

Yeah, I've realised that now. Will just go for a non HD amp as its mainly for gaming and DVD.

I am considering something along those lines. I currently only have a PS3 and sky box to hook up to the amp. I don't think any PS3 games will be coming in HD sound for a long time so I don't think I need to spend any extra on that spec for the amp.

Any particular Yamahas to look out for?
