Which is the one to go for?

Going to buy the Panny TH42px80b for £559 delivered this weekend (bargain? I think so), so want a blu ray player to go with it.

So, question is..which one?

oh, and where from!

Thought I'd reply as you seem to in a situation where I have found myself. I bought the same TV (VERY GOOD TV, BY THE WAY) 6 months ago for around £620. Extremely happy with it, but decided to buy blu ray player to go with it.

And it just so happened I was juggling between the two you have mentioned.

Obviously the Panasonic would go very well with the tv, as you will be able to use just one remote to control both machines.(Connect via Viera Link) The Panasonic is meant to be the slightly better picture too.

Despite all this, I bought the Sony. And why.......I found it for £206 delivered a few weeks after it had been released in this country. I also have an Onkyo amp, and the remote will control both tv and blu ray player, so the Viera Link wasn't such a big deal.

Amazon now sell the sony for about £154 delivered, or dabs.com have it for £160 delivered. Panasonic can be found just under £200 from Amazon or Laskys. GREAT PRICES!!!!!

Hope that helps....................

Excellent! Many many thanks mate...

Not bothered about an extra remote to be honest...especially if I can save a few quid.

No probs with the S350 at all then?

No problems with the Sony at all. In fact, I'm still totally amazed by the picture/sound quality everytime I watch a disc. 'The Dark Knight' looked and sounded incredible the other night! Just be aware that there is no onboard decoding for DTS-HD Master Audio (used on some blu ray discs), which I get away with because I use my amp to do the decoding all HD audio. The Panasonic has onboard decoding for all HD audio.

The amazon link follows:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001DN1SP4/pr-electronics-21/ref=nosim

If you go for this machine, notice the 3 free blu ray offer under 'Product Promotions' near bottom of the screen, and follow the instructions on how to claim the discs.

Hope that helps you..........

hi, i agree with pistol pete, sony s350 bluray player is amazing. had a ps3 the 350 is better in every department especially sound. blockbuster sellin them for £199 with 4 bluray films, hancock, mama mia, wall.e, ironman and by redemption batman begins, and casino, not forgeting 10 half price bluray rental vouchers. i have heard the panasonic 35 is bril but the sony deal did it for me. if you dont like the free films sell them on ebay like i did, which makes the player a no brainer deal.

I am gonna be connecting the blu ray straight to the tv itself (no amp at all), so the sound will be coming out of just the tv

would that sway more to the panasonic or make no difference really?

Oh, thanks for your help as well guys

Hi again,

I would imagine HD sound will not be an issue then. For you to really hear the difference, you would need an amp and a 5.1 surround sound set up. You will be very lucky to notice much difference via built in TV speakers.

Just for your info, the HD sound has a lot more detail and is generally clearer than the old standard DTS and Dolby Digital.

If you ever decide to do the amp and 5.1 speaker thing, make sure the amp decodes the missing DTS-HD Master Audio, like the Onkyo 606 does (its the one I have), and you will have no compatibility issues at all anyway.

Go for the Sony player, and enjoy!!!!!!!
