Hi,

I have just insalled a Sonos system and i would like to know what external hard drive to buy.

I have heard the Buffalo drivers are good, should i consider any other drives?

Assuming you're going to be using the drive as a NAS - ie connected to your router rather than direct to a computer - you'd need one of the Buffalo LinkStation models, not a DriveStation.

And yes, they'll be perfectly adequate, as would the WD MyBook World models I use, or any one of a number of competing products.

Yes you will need a NAS.

I would probably look at a 2 bay model so at the very least you can mirror the data.

Chuck in 2 X 2TB drives and i think that will be more than enough storage for your music collection.

I personally like QNAP NAS systems but also look at netgear as they often offer a free drive with the systems.

Thanks for your reply.

The drive would be connected to the router.

I use a Buffalo linkstation live NAS with mine. Was easy to set up and has worked faultlessly. It is a self contained unit so no messing about adding drives to it, just buy a large enough capacity to start with. I think they go up tp 1.5 or 2tb now.

I used Philips nas driver, Laciea Driver. I do not think any big difference, if you place the nas in a different room. But if you place the nas in your listening room it must be quiet. I think this has to be the main and the only consideration.
