Some advice needed - moving from bi-wire to single

Hello all and apologies for any stupidity, I'm not too hi-fi savvy.

I'm about to do some "renovating" and I'm basically gonna need and buy longer speaker cables. Right now I'm using qed silver anniversary xt bi-wires to my q acoustics 1030i's (bi-wire ready) and I'm thinking of trying chord carnival silverscreens. Single though, cause bi-wire is tad too expensive and altogether too chunky.

I have a few questions:

- The speakers came with links, but they seem cheap and well.. rubbish 🙂 Can I use cuts of the qed's for linkage or would it be better to use cuts from new chord's instead? And what part of the cable should I cut, positive or negative or it doesn't matter?

- Does anyone have any experience with these speakers and perhaps knows that they perform better if bi-wired? In this case I would probably go for bi-wires again.

Much appreciated!

As you're going to need two links why not use both? Just cut a long enough chunk off separate it down the middle and use the positive for the positive terminals and the negative for the negative, not that it matters.

Of course you could question the necessity of doing it at all, given that the speaker manufacturer presumably considered the links good enough for them.

Otherwise I'd go with a link made form the same cable you're connecting to the speakers, otherwise you might change the tonal balance between the tweeter and woofer. Although you may actually prefer the sound that way. Experiment a bit, see what you prefer, it's just a bit of a giggle isn't it?

And what part of the cable should I cut, positive or negative or it doesn't matter? Either,it won't matter. The only difference between the positive and negative conductor will be the colour/markings of the insulation.

Thank you both for your answers.

On a side note, I find it interesting that using a link from a different cable to the actual speaker cable could cause any kind of sound issue, yet that cheap piece from the manufacturer supposedly wouldn't 🙂

I never said it wouldn't, what I said was you should try different combinations to see which you prefer (or if you even notice any difference). If one assumes that most people don't immediately bi-wire their speakers then the sound created with the original jumpers in place is the only sound they'll be familiar with. So just changing the jumper could produce a noticable change (but might not).
