I was thinking the same thing this morning, I wish I had kept my Oppo 103, so glad I bought this now, because I was in 2 minds. That's my electrical budget maxed for the next 5-10 years!ellisdj said:not for me gel - needs to do everthing in one box - I can and only want to use one media player for everything due to setup constraints. I also really like darbee
I also have no WCG and HDR with my setup - just 4k which is supposed to not be that big a deal out of the 3.
However as I sit very close to a 100" screen I think I will get more benefit than others, however I wont know until I try.
After everything I have bought this year - new speakers ultra expensive, mains cables ultra expensive, mains conditioning ultra exensive and lots of other stuff I dont have the budget just to play this for a bit and see for myself as much as I would like to.
It would need to be a one time purchase to make it worth it - and I am inclined to wait until people upgrade these players as well - better power supplies etc. I wish I had just bought an audiocom oppo 103d signature rather than the 5 bd players I went through up til now
I have to admit I didn't like it at the cinema and the ultra 4K edition is something like over 3 hours but now I am loving it. I just need a long time to watch it all, although with 4K blu rays you can start where you finished last time.ellisdj said:Interestingly I watched BvS at the weekend - it was my second viewing since owning the film and the first watch since | have made a lot of upgrades to my system and room.
People slated this film - however come the end of it I couldnt help but think what an outstanding overall experience it was to sit there and watch it a thrilling experience. Films like this you need to see on the right quality of system cinema or home but the right quality to fully get the type of experience on offer from it.
Compared to my old favourite pacific rim - I watched this yesterday and it just felt like an assault on the senses by comparison which I am sure is a big part of the design
1) Build quality.FunkyMonkey said:What advantage will this give me over my Xbox one S? Serious question.
P.s. I already have a seperate pioneer player that handles SACD and dvd-a.
Its not universal in my eyes as there are no streaming services - although I get what you are saying - universal in terms of it play multiple disc based formatsbigboss said:3) It's a universal player.
I am not saying that you will see a difference though at some have reported they haven't but also being able to see HDR on and off really close has made me seriously happy with my purchase, I can see what I am paying for.gel said:I have to say I think the picture quality is better, I know that's unlikely but from what I have seen it's better than the Samsung and the Panasonic's. I know the picture quality is the same but the processing that goes into it or something has made the Oppo better in my view. I think the Samsung and the Panasonic is slightly different too.

Yes, it's a universal player, which, by definition, is a multi format player.ellisdj said:Its not universal in my eyes as there are no streaming services - although I get what you are saying - universal in terms of it play multiple disc based formatsbigboss said:3) It's a universal player.

Or add a ChromeCast Ultra to one of the HDMI inputs.

There you go, you have your answer! :good:FunkyMonkey said:bigboss said:1) Build quality.FunkyMonkey said:What advantage will this give me over my Xbox one S? Serious question.

1 is irrelevant as the Xbox just sits there.
2 is irrelevant because I have not yet detected any noise from the Xbox one S which is remarkable given that the ps3 and ps4 I had previously both made some kind of noise.
Number 3 is irrelevant as I already have the Pioneer that plays sacd and dvd-a.
Now that the Xbox does Atmos, and the potential is there to improve the picture quality, e.g. they added HDR recently, so surely they can further improve the picture...If that is necessary.
I'm hard pressed as to why I should get a dedicated player like the Oppo.
The only tangible advantage is the double HDMI output.
Or a Roku stick. There was a dedicated Roku stick for Oppo 103 / 105 which allowed you to use the Oppo remote to control it.ellisdj said:jjbomber said:Benedict_Arnold said:Many, if not all, 4K TVs come with "smart" capabilities. Thats a good shout

Spotify, though it is available on the Oppo wireless speakers.
