Small Speaker with Subwoofer suggestions

Due to very limited space, I want to install a small satellite pair of speakers and a subwoofer to listen to music in a new extension.

The room is probably far from ideal as a 'hifi' location due to too much glass around the walls and tiles on the floor.

However, I want to attempt to get a good sound for a mix of classical/jazz/rock played at reasonably quiet levels. No TV, so no cinema sound required.

I'm currently thinking of buying the Marantz M-CR610 system player connected via ethernet to my flac files on a PC.

I've noticed the Cambridge MINX satellite/sub systems, and was thinking about a pair of either the MINX Min11 or MINX Min21 with the X200 sub. Due to the limited space it will be difficult to go much larger than the Min21

Can anyone comment on these items, or suggest better ones whilst trying to keep below a total of about £1200?

Axe the sub, and go for some Neat Iotas? Nice and small, and I think sufficient for what you would require. Otherwise, the Minx 11 could be viable I guess (not heard that set up).

Neat Iotas seconded, but I'd be tempted to add a nice BK sub, depending on the size of your extension.

Have either of you tried this combination?

Hard to see how an amplifier with such modest power capabilities is going to drive a pair of 84 db/watt Iotas........ :?

I had the Minx Min20 (older version) + X300 sub (forget the X200 - it's not much smaller), and I can say they sounded brilliant. Go for it. But, and this is a big but - the sub MUST go into a corner or else the midrange will be left with a gaping hole and the bass of-course will suffer.

I would also get the enhanced optional wall brackets for the Min21 - it allows you to swivel and tilt, and is very stable.

Fair point, Dave, took my eye off the ball.

I'm running my Iotas with an MF M1 PWR, which is rated 65W and has a maximum power draw of 350W, I think. Works very nicely. But whether the Iotas would work with the CR610 ...

Easily done.

With modern equipment it is actually quite hard to find any combinations that don't work, assuming that you only requirement is that it goes reasonably loud without obvious distortion.

There is so much more to decent hi-fi than that, though sometimes I do wonder.......
