Sky has invested heavily in its HD/3D infrastructure and programming (unlike some others), so it's hardly surprising it wants to make a return on that investment. But it's under investigation from Ofcom on several fronts at the moment, which has led to a shake-up in the pay-TV market.

And don't forget, you don't have to subscribe to Sky. Virgin is catching up in the HD stakes, and Freeview HD is being rolled out across the UK by 2012.

Not available in all locations, mine included.

and Freeview HD is being rolled out across the UK by 2012.

And can almost guarantee that will not be available to me either, so if I want to watch anything other than BBC Sky is my only option.

ricardo65:maxflinn:sky could easily afford to drop their prices , they are making billions every year , why the sky worship ? i just dont get it ? if they had their way then all sports , movies , kids programmes , news etc would be shown soley on their channels , whether people could afford to pay for them or not , sky are ruthless , see them for what they are , pay for it if you want , but dont defend them ....

But what choice do we have here in Ireland? I dropped UPC because their HD network is painfully behind schedule and they couldn't even give me a rough idea when it would be available, and I'm 20 minutes outside Dublin city !!! There is no other realistic competition for SKY here in Ireland so it's a case of pay up or shut up unfortunately !!!i guess it depends what you need , i have freesat , and im happy with that , sure id love to watch the odd premier league match on a sunday , but apart from that theres nothing sky have that i would want to pay for , each to his own though ..

Or Freesat, albeit with only two HD channels so far.

Currently I would mostly agree with you (swap test match cricket for football), but sky now have exclusivity on all of the HBO output and are apparently trying to do the same for Showtime. Quality US drama like the Sopranos, Mad Men and SIx Feet Under as well as the new Scorcese mafia dram awill in the future only be available on subscription. However much I dislike the Murdochs, I don't blame them for trying to get everything worth watching behind their pay wall - it makes them more profit, but I am not at all happy about it.

I have been a sky customer since the digital box and one of the first with HD.

What has become clear to me is the lack of customer service. Got worse over the years.(don't care attitude)

No longer with Sky spent weeks trying to reason by Telephone- (Hours) .... E mail- (No Reply and If I did?? The issue was overlooked)

50.00 plus a month and never resolved why they had a lack of care no reply nothing. Hence now better off . Be warned of the tactics they employ when you try to cancel.

just got my letter about this rip off, my letter say's and i quote

" whilst you are within your minimum contract term, you can keep the additional HD channels which you currently have access to if you contact us "

well just contacted sky and this is complete bull, he told me that i would have to subscribe to additional packs to get the channels i already have which costs more.

I feel i have been miss sold this product as what i originaly purchased it for will be taken away and charged extra for.

not impressed and will be parting with sky once my contract is up.

Rant over!
