idc:Sorry, but where is Start/run?

My fault idc - it's not enabled by default in Windows 7. instructions to enable are here...

I have enabled run and tried both trace cert and trace route and get the message that it is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable programme or batch file.

In the Start/Run box, type 'cmd' and pres return - you will get what looks like a DOS window. Then in that window type 'tracert cdn.whathifi.com'. Copy the results from that window (by selecting the text and pressing Ctrl-C, then pasting into a mail using Ctrl-V) and mail them to me at my haymarket address.

Just FYI idc, you're getting the same results as we do here so it's not a geographical thing. I have the network bods upstairs monitoring for a couple of days to see if there's an obvious problem and will let you know...

Thanks for the help. I am definitely having fewer problems now posting with Chrome.

EDIT - not true, I cannot get images to post now. Will try back with IE.

2nd EDIT - Chrome only allows posting written replies. IE allows pictures, quotes, copying, the lot.

Just to let you know, IE has been behaving itself since the big thaw here. However, Chrome will only let me post words and no links, picts, quotes etc.

Was anyone else unable to log on to the site at all up until very recently? I tried at about 9am (obviously the first thing to do on Monday morning, better than reading your work emails!) and just got an error from the browser, like as if my broadband had disconnected - but other sites were fine.

Andrew Everard:We had some company-wide problems from about 9am to 10am. All resolved now - apologies.

Ah fair enough - mustve been a big switch to turn everything off and on again.

Wheres your DR eh? Tut tut.

DR? It was hardly a disaster, and Dr Duncan was on hand with his sonic screwdriver and band of digital elves to restore service in good time.

Still being limited to basic replies and quotes in Chrome. No pictures, similies and links. Links are grayed out. The other two appear to work but then nothing. Just keeping you updated.

The problem of pages going blank is still occuring on my Mac with this site and all related sites beginning with 'What'. I just went to get a car valuation on WhatCar? and as soon as the home page finished loading the page went blank. I had to use the PC again and chuck my daughter off it.

What larks, eh Pip? What larks!

But there was method in the madness of my question about what what sites were doing what...

Er... WhatStreetFurniture? What other family sites are there? My mind has gone as blank as these pages. I'm sure it was another What...? site.

woah, site seems to have gone bonkers. no adds, no banner at the top - just text spread all over the page.

tried refreshing and quiting and reloading the site a bunch of times. no dice.

just did an update to comodo firewall, could that have done it? all other sites seem fine.

edit: the links to stuff, what car etc are the same - just text.

Same here, all banners, pictures and complex page formatting has gone. The site has a retro feel to it now, kind of groovy.
