Interesting comments Chris. How much do you think you can save in overheads (vs loss in sales) if you had no demo or shop presence? Have you thought about the man with a van home demo approach? I'm intersted as I would have listened to more and probably spent more on new kit not used had something like this been available. I don't want to critiscise retailers too much by the way, I guess a lot of responsibility lies with the manufacturers, who maybe just rely on non franchised outlets generating sales, using the media (magazines etc) as their primary marketing tool; I don't know how much support they give to the retailer other than some kind of pricing / volume incentive.
If so, then at least some of the comments in this thread suggest that it's not altogether joined up.
