Samsung UE46ES8000 help needed finding hard drive please

I've had this tv about 8 months now and have never got round to buying a hard drive for it for recording tv. I've been using a 4gb USB stick which is handy but only takes about 2 hours of TV, I've bought bigger usb sticks 8gb and 16gb but all but the original 4gb one refuse to work. What I need to know is do I need a mains powered hard drive or will a USB powered one work? What's the minimum and maximum size I need for it to work as I've heard there are limits. Can someone who has one in use recommend a specific one. I don't need massive amounts of storage. Any help would be fantastic, thanks

My iomega portable hard drive works on both my Samsung TVs, I have a 32inch in the bedroom that is 2-3 years old and a new 55F8000 in the living room and that works fine on both. It's a 320gb one in a metal enclosure that is usb powered and both TVs read files and record TV with no issue so I would presume you don't need a mains powered hard drive but you could use one if you wish.

The ES8000 is last years model so you shouldn't have an issue getting a hard drive to work as Samsung support a wide range of devices but of course nothing is guaranteed so if you are in any doubt give them a call is my advice. Any usb powered half decent drive should work though so I don't think you will have an issue, hope that helps.

USB sticks are too slow for the most part, which is why your 8 and 16 probably didn't work. Make sure you plug your USB in to the socket marked HDD, it's higher current than the other ones. As oldboy says, any USB powered drive should work.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, will have a look and see what's available, I think I'm limited to 500gb ( seem to remember reading that somewhere) but that will be more than enough.
