Advice please - I am running an Onkyo 605 with Kef 2005-2 speakers with cheap cable which I want to upgrade.

Is it best to use the same cable all round as I have been told that I should use cheaper cable on the rear speakers??

Also is it best to take the bare wire into the amp or use banana plugs?

Any help greatly appreciated

In the context of this system, the advantages of otherwise of banana plugs should not be noticeable, so whatever works for you - I'd use banana plugs for convenience.

As for the speaker wire, yes you could just upgrade the front three to begin with (generally the shorter lengths anyway) - I wouldn't spend too much though - no more than about £3 a metre anyway.

Thanks for the advice John. Is there no noticeable difference when using a lower grade cable on the rear speakers?

I use QED Silver Anniversary XT on my front three and silver Micro on my rears which seems to work a treat.

Thanks Bilbo - I was looking to put XT on the front, so will take your advice about the rear.
