my sagem freeview PVR only has scarts for the visual part and is currently scart to scart into my TV then i have the sound hooked up via coax digital to my onkyo 606, i looked through the menus on the sagem and noticed that you could set the out put to componenet (i think, its has a setting that you can change from scart to YPbPr... does this mean component)?

so can you get a scart to component converter? would i still need the coax digital for sound and would this then mean i can take advantage of the upscaling the 606 can perform?

Hi mate, I tried the same thing a while back. I think 'ypbpr' is a type used through composite video and there needs to be the letter 'C' in there somewhere for it to be component I think.
You could try a scart to composite lead (red, white, yellow terminals) and that would work into the '606' for upscaling but to be honest...I tried this with my old 606 and it looked worst than running it straight from the PVR to the tv via a Qed scart lead.
I have a scart to component converter which I do not want anymore but I think to be honest you may be better with waht you got. Good Luck

cheers paul, yep i have it connected via QED Squart at the moment then the audio via QED Coax so will stick with that for now, if i come across a cheap or borrowable coversion lead i may gve it a try, but wont spend £££ on a lead

Yes, YPbPr is component analogue video, and should be handled by the Onkyo no problem at all.

You don't need a Scart to component converter if the Sagem can output in this way via a Scart - some Linn players did the same thing, IIRC - but rather a simple Scart to component cable.such as these.

Just make sure you buy one designed for output - ie Scart to component - not input (component to Scart).
