This January I bought a Cyrus CD8X with a Prevs2, two Power 6s and Spendor S5e speakers. Interconnects are Cyrus and the speaker cable is Nordost Super Flat bi-wire. Later I added two Psxs. I'm planning to upgrade the Power 6s to XPowers later this year.

I've listened to the hifi for about an hour or two a week since it arrived. What I am wondering is whether I should have played it more extensively to "run it in", or just switch it on for a period and leave it running with volume turned down.

Personally I don't think it would make the blindest bit of difference. Unlike cars though...

With my limited experience and cloth ears, I tend to agree. I can't say that I've noticed any change in sound quality over the six months. It has sorted out the sheep from the goats though in the quality of my CDs and vinyl, some of the latter worn and tired. Also, I think that a couple of cheapie CDs will be dumped.

speakers deffinatly change after bedding in, but not with the volume down.

it makes perfect sence that there going to soften up and move differently. i couldn't stand my tdl's from new, they had no bass, and thats there main feature. Now i have to nail things down.

Very nice kit and a balanced combination - just enjoy your music and it will 'run' itself in.

I would imagine the solution would be to listen to it an hour or two per night and switch the telly off.

My CD player is now just coming into its own after a couple of hundred hours use.

You're right, I ought to listen to it more. The problem is that my wife is not too keen on Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Sonny Rollins etc, and Charlie Parker can only be played when she is at WI.
