Rotel RCD-06 with ATC SCM 11

Hello,

I'd like to use ATC SCM 11 passive monitors as speakers. Can I use it with my system without total up-grade?. Which power amplifier should I buy?

I have a Rotel RCD-06 player and a pre-amplifier of the same series.

I listen mostly to classical music. I bought the Rotel RCD-06 and the pre-amplifier when I was a student. I used it with cheap Behringer monitors. Now, I have an oppurtunity to buy a new acoustics.

I listended to ATC SCM 11 (but with another system and with ATC own amplifier) in a Hi-Fi salon. I like it and its sound.

But may I use it with my Rotel palyer? Which power amplifier should I buy? As far as I know ATC needs good amplifying.

Could you give me a piece of advice? Thanx

If you are prepared to consider used equipment than i would highly recommend Rotel's RB1070 power amplifier. The RB1070 has good quality of power and will also offset the forward presentation of the 6 series components. The 06/RB1070 combination will work superbly with the SCM11speakers.

atcs are a window on your electronics, whatever you're electronics sound like is what will come out of them (as well as music, obv.

). i can't comment on your cdp and pre, as i haven't heard them. what power amp to go for, would depend on your budget, whether you would consider 2nd hand and what sort of sound preferences you have.

rick at musicraft often recommends nad amps, on a budget, as they tend to have good dynamic headroom, helping the atcs show their strengths. might be worth giving him a ring as i believe he used to sell rotel and will be familiar with your existing kit.

like any good speaker, they just get better and better as the amp powering them improves, so i'd bust the bank to get the best you can.

Yes, NAD amplifiers work very well with ATC speakers and yes i have also sold Rotel components over the years (far too many to remember the amount sold).

Thanx for everyone. My problem is not only my budget. The main problem is that I'm from Moscow, Russia. In our country the Hi-Fi market is very narrow. I had called the dealer of ATC and they just told me: "Buy our amplifier for 125 000 roubles and it will work great". Then I tried to ask them if it ATC will work with any Rotel amplifier, the didn't want to talk with me. They were very snobbish. And the shop, where I had bought my player didn't want to talk about ATC, because they don't sell them.

The second-hand market here is very narrow too.

Maybe (if staying with Rotel) I should buy not Rotel RB-1072 but more powerful Rotel RB-1552 power amplifier? Will it work with Rotel-6 cd and pre-amp?

It will be 40 000 rub (about 1 333 dollars) for the power-amp and 45 000 rub (1 400 dollars) for the ATC

Hi Nikitin

The RB1072/RB1552 will work with your 6CD/6pre however the ATC's will easily reveal the forward sounding presentation of the combination. Hence why i recommended the RB-1070 (or even a RB-1080) as it will tonally suit the 06 components in conjunction with the SCM11's. Try and get a hold of the RB-1070/RB-1080 as i believe it will be worth the time and effort.

Btw, the C275BEE by NAD is also worth a look.
