The room I have is 8.6 x 4.3m wide but, due to doors on both ends, the viewing direction is across the short axis at one end giving a 4x4 sound stage. In addition its in a sloping roof space (with solid concrete roof and walls) where the front wall is 3m high but only 1.1m tall at the back. With my low sofa you get a viewing/listening distance of 3-3.5m from the front. My use is 50:50 movies/music.
I've demo tested different speaker systems in various shops and really like the B&W MT-30 set which would also work in the room from a practical and aesthetic point of view. I'm assuming I can also put another set of the MT-1's down at the far end for distributed music in the whole room (the other end is a study/living area).
My two question are: does any one have any toughts on the sound field in such a space (sloped roof, open end) and whether the B&W MT-30 would be a good choice (unfortunately, because the house is remote, an in-house demo is not feasible). Secondly what are recommendations for receiver if I do go with the B&W set. The Sony STR-DA 5400es gets good reviews (mostly) and would marry well with my 46" Sony but is it overkill to pair with the small B&W's.
