Richer Sounds price match request refused.

Hello.

This morning I was about to spend nearly £4k on 4 items at the said retailer.

Part of my order was a TV for £2500.

I had seen it online at another UK outlet for £2200.

So I rang my local RS store to enquire about price matching this item.

He checked online to see if it was in stock at the other retailer.

Then informed me it is in stock at the other place but they won't price match because they don't included a free 5 year warranty!

Thoughts on this?? Because I am a little baffled.

RS make a big thing about their price matching and also a big thing about their free 5 year warranty this is the reason I choose them.

But if they don't price match anywhere that doesn't give the same warrenty it's usless?!

Their price matching is tight! And it has to be within 50-55 miles - that's the joke. They should get with the times, John Lewis abolished that term years ago. I do like Richer Sounds though, normally you get a good enough deal anyway, so no need for the price match.

You're wrong gel. Read their terms of price match carefully:

"If a product is not available to mail order then the retailer must have an outlet within 50 miles of the Richer Sounds store you are purchasing from."

So 50 miles is only applicable if the retailer isn't able to post the product to you. This is absolutely fair.

Not many retailers price match online prices, including John Lewis (who insist on a physical shop).

To me a price match is to match the price of the same item or complete package, so RS are right in not matching your price because they are including a 5 year warranty. If the other retailer included warranty and is cheaper, then I'm sure RS would match this.

the RS deal sounds better because a warranty would cost more than£200 wouldn't it?

I'm with most people here, in agreeing with Richer Sounds insisting on equal warranty durations in order to price match.

Richer Sounds are generally pretty cheap, Tobias. I have to say, if the television you want is the Samsung UE75H6400, then I think that £2,500 is a fair price for a 75" set from an acclaimed Samsung series, with a 5-year warranty, and if I had the money I would pay Richer Sounds without delay. While they still have the item, as I mentioned before. In fact I'm slightly surprised that it's still in stock.

I assume you place no value on your visit to RS to look, touch, feel, and get some advise? Soon we won't have high street retailers they will have all gone either all online or out of business. edit, im sure if you stop waiving the price match under there nose speak to the manager I'm sure he would use his common sence and give you a further little incentive to buy, I'm very sure he would like 4K going through his till. Good luck.

What HiFi magazine usually have some Richer Sounds discounts, could be worth buying the latest issue.

And if you sign up as a VIP member on their website then you get a £10 voucher, that's a potential £110 off!

To be Frank if you are spending £4000 you are better of shopping at somewhere like Sevenoaks. They do bulk discounts, for example if you buy an amp and speakers they will normally discount a huge amount, I haven't heard of Richer Sounds doing this. Shop around get some quotes, I wouldn't do this deal on my experience.

With Sevenoaks shop around the different stores by phone and get quotes they do deliver. Frank Harvey is worth a shot too if you split up the TV from the deal.

Most of you seem to think a 5 year warrenty is worth the extra money.

The one about the death of the high street store! I did ring RS to ask for a demo of the TV but they said they couldn't do it as it was too big!

Another thing they make a big thing on their website about come try all our products at our stores.(Except big TV's!)

And the 5 year warrenty does not cost RS anything as its all done in house.(So I'm told)

So I would have thought a little discount would be worth a big sale.

And a little surf around the Internet shows quite a few people unhappy with RS warrenty repairs!!

Now they have lost a £4k sale off me today and possibly £000's in future sales for the sake of not price matching me a TV.

So the final thing is do I think a 5 year warrenty is worth £315?

Its a tough call for peace of mind!

I suppose I could keep that money to oneside and put it towards a repair if needed!
 
Richer Sounds and John Lewis are amongst top 5 in the industry for customer service. It's impossible that extended warranty doesn't cost money. So what if it's done in-house? It costs to set up a service centre and employ staff.

If you saw the TV cheaper elsewhere and they're offering a demo, I would suggest you buy from there, given that you don't really value a 5-year warranty and don't trust Richer Sounds despite having one of the best track records.

Over here, we generally advise people to buy TV from John Lewis or Richer Sounds only as they have repeatedly offered better after sales support than the manufacturer.

Personely I would not value the 5 year warranty, however it does cost them, however they fullfill it! I think if you talk to them you will be pleasently suprised, remember they are human just beacuse they are staff treat them as equels and you may just get a deal and be looked after!

I've found RS warranty service second to none, great service and reliable repairs. The warranty is also transferable should you wish to upgrade in a few years as I did when I sold my Denon reciever after 3 years of use. It was easier to sell on with the balance of a couple of years warranty.

Didnt know it was transferable!

Do you have to buy the 5 year warranty for example in the first place or is it included? And how do you know how much money the 5 year warranty is worth?

No catch.

It tell you the price for the warranty, you pay it.

If you do not use it claim your money back, a friend of mine has done this a couple of times now.

Also sign up as a VIP member and you get a free 5 year warranty on all TV's.

So if you get a free 5 year warranty does it still count?
