I have a KEF 2005.3 system matched to a Onkyo TX 606 in a small/medium room.

Great cinema sound and sub, but now I want a little more HiFi with some bookshelf speakers (or less preferably floorstanders).

What replacement fronts (suggested models or minimum price range) would be an improvement over the front KEF sattelites. I am wary of over capitalising the receiver ie getting speakers that are "too good" for the ability of the receiver.

I have been looking at anywhere between Tannoy mercury F1 and B&W 685's but am open to suggestions.

Any suggestions (like leave well alone to spend more!) appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Speakers from the KEF range are the obvious choice - KHT3001s or KHT5001s if you want to keep the visual match, for example - but you could use more conventional speakers if you wanted.

The big 'however', however, is that if you go outside the KEF KHT range you really should change the centre speaker to match the fronts. Otherwis eyou could end up with a very unbalanced effect across the front soundstage.

Thanks for the reply!

I may have to maxamise the KEFs before forking out to buy R/L/C. More food for thought...
