Replacement for Panasonic dmp-bd55?

I'm thinking of replaceing my Panasonic which at the time cost around £230ish & have been considering the Sony 370 blu-ray player. I only use the internet connection for updates mainly so not to concerned about built in memory storage etc..My main concern is would it match or better the panasonics' picture quality. I also use this for listening to CDs through a Denon av1909 reciever via HDMI cable so would like good sound reproduction. As the sony is a fraction of what my panasonic cost in 2008 is it a viable option or has technology evolved & become readily available for less. Other considerations are tha Panasonic dmp-bd85, sony 760 or wait until the sony 770 is released.

The Sony S370 should serve you well. You won't find any deterioration in performance. You're right in saying that technology has evolved & is readily available for less.

I think there will be a few sub-£50 blu-ray players in 2011-2012.

Many thanks for your feedback. I will certainly consider the Sony as the Panasonics extra sound options most likely wouldn't get used. Although the bd55 does have the dialogue enhancer which I have on but don't notice much benefit.

I have the BD35 and the Sony S370. The BD35 was the BD55 without analogue outs, though I believe there were also the sound enhancments you mention on the BD55. Picture wise though, I belive they are the same.

I've not noticed any diffence in PQ between the sony and Panny players.I don't use them to play CDs so can't comment on that. The BD35 is slow to load and eject discs; much slower than the Sony 370 and also my samsung 1500, so you'll find loading times an improvment. I really got the 370 for the Lovefilm aspect (free streaming films if you're a member), but finding Youtube and BBC iplayer great as well.

At the great prices the 370 has been recently, it's a real bargain IMHO.
