I'm picking up some walnut RX-5s later today and if you've any experience of them I'd be very interested to hear your comments.

Thanks all!

Adam

I've not seen any reviews of them so your views will be of interest.

BTW have you purchased them or are they on demo? what other speakers did you demo/consider? and what amplifier and source are you using with them?

I do have the RS5's but apparently the RX5's are a step from them - well so the marketing says *scratch_one-s_head*

If you have picking them up then I guess there's not a lot I can say about them tha's going to make any difference. I would say, as with all speakers, take time playing with positioning. If I recall they need improve with a little space around them and if your room is on the smallish size then arrange them with side woofers pointing inwards towards each other.

I did indeed pick up the RX-5s... together with a Saturn-R and Elicit-R :-D Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to set them up, but I'll hopefully do that this evening, and I'll take care with the positioning of the RX-5s

That lot is replacing my Apollo-R, which was feeding my Hal, Exons and a pair of Naos. Only my Planar 9 remains :)

Fun times ahead :)

Nice set up, that cdp/amp combination is still a possible option for me.

I also spent some time adjusting my speaker position. They are a good 100cm in from both the back and side walls, with a slight toe-in. The side firing woofers face outwards. Produces a nice open/wide soundstage with great scale (room is 5m x 4m).

I just thought I'd provide a quick update on my first listening session with the new gear. You won't be surprised to hear that I was ever so happy :)

I spent little time setting it up, to be honest. I just wanted to get it plugged in and up and running, so I know with some further fine tuning I'll be enjoying some further improvements, but as it was it sounded fabulous! It opened up some familiar recordings in quite spectacular ways. Unfortunately, those compressed recordings which weren't the best beforehand sounded rather worse in comparison to what was now on offer.

Having replaced everything but my turntable in one go, I can't offer a direct comparison between each old and new component, but I can say that the difference between the old and new is pretty huge. The RX-5s, despite being markedly smaller than the Naos, perform beautifully. No concerns there.

My only niggle is that having heard my friends RP10/Apheta2, Isis, Osiris, RS10s set up, absolutely every other hi-fi I've heard since is lacking. That always take a little of the shine off of enjoying my hi-fi, as it did last night. I just need a lottery win and... :)
