Hello. I'm watching the forum and the reviews closely for a long time now and I decided to post this question as I can't seem to find a clear direct comparison over the sound characteristics of the two. Where I live, it is impossible to A B compared both turntables in a store or with my setup so I have to take your opinions. I run a full tube setup handmade by a Greek designer Tsakiridis devices with a tube preamp and 2 separate Poweramp mono blocks driving a pair of Lintons. The setup was on the warm side but I managed to bring it where I wanted with a pair of great quality handmade speaker cables. Now I have the chance to get a turntable and I can afford either a planar P2 or a pro-ject debut carbon Evo. I like the extra features on the pro-ject and it is a little easier to get where I live. The comparison on the site gives a little more credit on the planar when it comes to sound quality. The question is which will match me system better and if the preamp stage will play a great role in that. Currently available NAD PP 2e. Is one of the two brighter? The Lintons are heavy on the bass which I like but don't want them to sound too dull What do you all thing? Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
The sound quality of turntables is mostly down to the tonearm / cartridge partnership so taking your two into account the differences are going to be minimal.
If I was buying I would go for the Project.
The phono preamp, if it does it's job well, should not influence the sound very much.
I would suggest getting the Project Phono Box MM if going for the Project turntable.

Hi, with Lintons you mean Wharfedale Lintons? First of all, I am biased to Rega, as I have two Rega turntables (Planar 25 for 26 years😉 and Planar 9 for some 8 years) and I am very happy with them both. Rega make also other very good audio components. Project is currently bigest hifi turntable manufacturer in the world. They respect each other. Rega is easier to instal and use, Project has more set up possibilities. Rega has more lively sound and for me higher fun factor. Project is a bit more neutral, precise someone will say "digital" sound. But both decks which you mention are excellent. Rega works best in Rega ecosystem. E.g. new Rega MM cartridge ND3 is designed to be optimal partner for Planar 2 TT. Project works wery well with Ortofon cartridges. I have in past shortly NAD PP1 phono and was not so happy with. I changed to Musical Fidelity X-LP MM/MC phono combined with my Planar 25 and Goldring 1042 MM cartridge. This was wery good combo. I recommend you to consider Planar 3 as deck. This TT has highest value/price factor in its class + Rega Exact MM cart and their Rega MM phono preamp. This is still the best available combination in its class. Nad PP3 is not on level of those decks. Thickness you describe related to bass may be caused by combination Linton/ Tube. Try other less bass heavy speakers or try other power amp with your tube preamp, some class AB bipolar power amp. May be, you will be surprised.
Your question is interesting but not so easy to reply. BR.
