Hello

I recently bought a Rega-P3-24 turntable with the Elys 2 cartridge. The dealer told me about the optional upgrade for about £120 of an external power supply unit. Could anyone tell me if this is a recomended upgrade that wil improve sound or is it ( like the £100 mains cable I was considering buying ) a continually raging debate!

Thanks

Leo

Setup :

Rotel RA-05

Marantz CD6002

B&W 685's with QED Silver Anniversary cable

Hi

This is no snake oil - the Rega PSU makes a significant improvement to the P3-24 (and an even bigger one with the P5 !)

This will give you a superb sound. If you want to go even further add a Dynavector 10x5 cart followed by P75 phono stage ! (although you will have outclassed your amp and speakers by now...) .

To my mind, power supply's the most important thing for a turntable. Haven't bought the external one for my Pro-Ject yet but I surely will. Like cables, most dealers worth their salt will lend you one, and if you can't bear to give it back then it's worth it!

make sure you can take it back if you don't hear a difference
