I've been trying to get hold of the Sony DG820 from EVERYWHERE at the minute. No where seems to have it in stock... except Play.com. At the minute Sony can't even confirm when they will next be in stock.

Anyone ever bought anythin like this from them before? I've ordered DVD's n stuff off them but I'm unsure whether I'd be hit with customs charge or lack of warrenty etc.

Unsure whether to buy off play or wait...

I bought my Blu-Ray player off Play, MP3 player and a Tom-Tom, plus tons of other stuff (Although like you mostly CDs/DVDs/BDs), no problem.

Go for it.

Got my Sony STR1200ES a couple of years ago from them and everything was fine, also got the cables to go with it. Was the cheapest at the time too.

Not a fan of Play.Com for purchasing higher priced electrical items due to their 28-day return policy if the item is faulty.

As they are based in Jersey UK consumer law does not protect you. If you want to return a faulty item after 28 days then they instruct you to contact the manufacturer even though your contract is with them

I agree. Once you've had whatever you've bought from them for more than 28 days, you can forget sending it back to them for repair or replacement. I bought a Nintendo DS from them that went faulty after 6 weeks and they wouldn't accept it back. They pointed me in the direction of their t&c's which stated this.... but who reads these before they buy?

I'd rather pay a few extra quid and get it from somewhere based in UK where you can send it back and get proper customer care.

I ordered a sony str dg820 from play.com last june, Waited till they had stock in september when they said they had sent it.

Never did get it, had to wait 21 days before I could tell them then another 2 weeks for a refund.

After that I kind of lost faith in them and have not used them since.

Maybe I was just unlucky.

I would (kinda strongly) advise against buying such expensive kit from any marketplace-type traders, be it Amazon Marketplace or Play Trade. These are often small companies run by "cowboys" who don't care how they treat their customers. I used to work for one. You've been warned.

I can see no problem with buying from Play themselves though. Just make sure you know who you're buying from that's all.
