I’m finally looking to add a surround sound system to accompany my Pioneer PDP436 XDE Plasma TV, however I’m working to a budget of £1,500 for a receiver and speaker package (having already purchased QED HDMI-P cable) having read reviews on the Denon AVR 1910, Pioneer VSX-919AH receivers & B&W MT 25, KEF 3005SE speaker packages I have a couple of questions.

Which receiver/speaker combination would you recommend? And should I be looking at any other alternatives given my budget constraints?

Chris.

You could try buying the latest edition of what hi fi

, in there, there is a great combination for the money you are talking about.

Do you already own a blu-ray player or is the budget of £1500.00 meant to take that into account as well?

Sorry not been online for a bit, have a PS3 running as my main blueray player at the moment, and for sound the Pioneer side speakers that come with the PDP436 XDE

So the £1500 spend is on receiver & speakers, although if I'm honest I'd rather spend less however from reading loads about set up I don't want to diminish my Pioneer

Thanks for your help.

I would recommend Miller & Kreisel Alpha K15's (92.93) X 5 (£464.65) + MK KX 12 sub (£399) total 863.65 which leaves £600 for amp i think this would represent a better value and sound as these speakers only 2 years ago were £200+ each and the sub is retail value £695 but as a new range has been introduced the price has reduced i used them with a Pioneer AX5i amp viewing on a pioneer pdp433hde but had the slightly bigger K7's on the fronts but i didn't suggest them as you look like you want smaller speakers. Another option you cold look at is Q acoustics cinema pack 2020 for £479 this would save you money and looks like an excellent buy. Either of the two amps you have said would be a good start and i don't think either of these speaker sets would disappoint. You would need to factor in stands unless wall mounting or on shelves. I know it's not the speakers you were looking at but i was informed when i was looking to upgrade by an independent dealer that i had moved past the B&W M's and Kef egg package with what i had already and that was the MK K series pack that i've now upgraded to the new MK M series pack.

All receivers sound very different to one another (and depending on the speakers they're driving), & I strongly recommend demoing them before making a purchase. I personally found the Pioneer to be bright for my taste. I prefer the warmer sound of the Yamaha.
