Hello WHF team

I am thinking about buying an ipod, as i seem to be one of the only few people on the planet that doesn't have one.

What I wanted to know, now that you have reviewed the 2 products - is there any difference in sound quality between the classics and the nano's.

Regards

STM.

Yes (and i've been meaning to append the review to explain - will do so pronto): the Classic is a smoother, more refined listen, whereas the nano is a more energetic performer. I think that suits their relative likely use - Classic more likely to be a 'docked' or longer-term listen, whereas the nano is ideal on-the-move/exercise territory.

and how do both compare to touch and iphone 3g. I am really trying to find out if the the sound quality is the only criteria which one sounds the best or is the difference negligible.

The Classic remains the best-sounding - but it's interesting, as it sounds more like the iPhone and Touch than the previous Classic - a touch tauter and springier ,as if Apple is moving more toward a 'house sound.'

The Classic's sonic superiority comes to the fore especially when docked or using a higher-end pair of headphones, so it'll depend on how you choose/plan to use your 'Pod as to any differences you'll hear.

And remember a) biggest difference still can be heard by using high-quality files - and the Classic has all the room yyou'd want to rip/store all your collection in Lossless/WAV

b) the Classic ain't much use at making phone calls and/or accessing the internet...

I disagree with Clare.

The Classic isn't anywhere near as good as the Nano and Touch, which are solid state.

The Classic has a "tizzy" treble and is less refined, IMO.

I would say Claire is right, you need to compare apples with apples.

It all depends on the format, in both iPods I've owned MP3s tended to sound a bit harsher than equivalent AACs, and I would expect the same results in the latest iPods.

AACs have sounded smooth across the board, with no undue sibilance, which MP3s can sometimes veer toward.

Hi Clare, whats you view on the jamo i300 ipod dock. I brought it last month and its a full blown hifi im well impressed!

Is this similar sound and performance to the award winners 5.1 from jamo just with 2 sats and a sub.

Rather than 4 sats, center, sub like the award winner?
