Hi Guys, After hearing all amps on my shortlist, I've now purchased the Denon 2310,which I should receive by the weekend. Now I will start to look for a stereo amp to drive front speakers. Can anyone help in terms of connecting this to the Denon, also would I be able to use my subwoofer whilst listening to music?

You don't need a stereo amp. Your Denon 2310 will drive both the front channels in stereo mode.

I think he wants to use the Denon for films and a dedicated stereo amp for music. All you would need to do is connect a pair of RCA leads from the front left and front right pre-out of the Denon into one of the inputs of your stereo amp. The front speakers are connected to your stereo amp. Can't keep you on the subwoofer question though, sorry, as i just use the subwoofer for films and I have that plugged into the av amp.

I know what he meant. I feel it is a waste of money seeing that he has invested in a good AV amp - that should be sufficient to take care of cd playback duties too.

Save the money on the stereo amps for better mains cables, blu-ray dvd's etc.

Anyway, that's just my opinion.

As an alternative to purchasing an amp, can a zp120 be used in the same manner as an amp? Also the ZP120 having a dedicated sub out, Can this be used when Av amp is not in use without having to unplug phonos?

Do you mean a Sonos ZP120? They don't have a dedicated sub-out, at least I've never noticed one on mine (they don't have any line-outs at all in fact). Could you use it instead of a stereo amp, I guess so, it's a got a line-in but I'm not sure how you'd get on getting the volume levels right, might need a bit of adjusting each time. I really don't think the amp in a ZP120 has got the grunt to run alongside the Denon either to be honest.

Thanks guys, Yeah! Sonos ZP120. It has a line in and a dedicated sub out. My plan is to look for a second hand Naim Nait 5i or a Rega Brio. I heard an Nait was blown away by dynamics. My thought was if the Sonos ZP120 worked my be go that route as I already have it.

If you really want a stereo amp for your cds then get a speaker switch. Feed the front pair from the av amp into one input on the switch and the left and right from the stereo amp into the other input, then just select which piece of kit you want to feed to the speakers.

You're right it does, however it wouldn't be using the LFE channel, which is what you'd want, it would simply be diverting whatever low frequencies are being sent to the line-in on the Sonos.

You could use it for stereo if the sub had TWO low-level inputs but I don't know if that's common or not. Otherwise you could use a high-level input to the sub coming from the ZP120s speaker connections. Arguably that might be better for music.

Post again moderated. This looks far too much like an ad.

I cocur with the general opinion, if I were you I would wait and hear before getting an additional stereo amp. What I am more surprised about the post is that you are replacing an ARCAM AVR250. Do you think that the Denon is going to sound better? My understanding was that this was one of the most musical receivers.

It is, but I would the latest HD formats and the idea of connecting all your equipment into the amp has greater appeal. My belief is the only major difference is arcam handles music better.
