Hi does anyone else's Tacima rattle when they shake it without anything plugged in? Got one today and just thought I'd check that its not normal before I sent it back.

Mine doesn't rattle. If something is loose inside, you could open it up to take a look but the problem is they use some weird screws that only seem to tighten but can't be loosened with a normal screwdriver. I wanted to open it up to replace the cheap and nasty power cord that comes with it, but unfortunately those darn screws wouldn't cooperate with the plan.

I wouldn't worry about the Tacima mains lead too much. It all goes through the filtering unit anyway.
I have my unit hard wired into a junction box on 40A mains wired spur, so no plug with a 13A fuse in it, (a 20A circuit breaker on the line instead).

I'll take a look at mine when I get home but are you sure they aren't just Torx screws?

Nope ............... mine does not rattle at all ............... so looks like you have a lose object floating about inside?

Had a similar problem with an 8 Way TV Aerial Amplifier unit .............. took it apart and found a lose piece of the main body-half's plastics had broken off ............. nothing serious .............. simply removed, screwed the two body half's back together and job done.

One thing looking at my Tacima .......... on the back are two mounting holes which accept screw heads for when you wall mount these items ............ they are fully open into the unit and as such you should be able to shake it about a bit and peer through one of these holes to see what's rattling about??? ............... Worth a quick look?

Thanks for checking. I've just decided to send the unit back and get a replacement. Funny thing was I checked the old cheap block that I've been using for years just out of curiosity and there is something loose in there as well! Might have been ok but better safe than sorry I guess.

Have just checked two other (basic) trailing sockets I have (under the bed, feeding side table lights) and YES, they rattle as well (?)

So I took out a screwdriver and opened then up ........................ the culprit .......... a loose or weak spring which help keep the sliding internal socket covers in place (the internal cover that stops you sticking anything in to a socket?).

As one of the small springs was not doing it's job, one of the covers was moving within it's slots ..................... took the spring and cover out ................ put the socket back together and rattling has now gone!

Ah so that's what it is. Nothing much to worry about then hopefully. Good to find out the cause of it all though.

To easily double check it is this that is wrong with yours, stick a plug in to each outlet and have another shake of it .......... if it is these covers they will all be under tension and will not rattle?

If it still RATTLES ................... ummmmmm, it not these?
