OK, first off, using QED Micro for rears.....at what point is it worth upgrading cable? Just invested in some MA RXFX rears and want to get the best out of them. Secondly, having upped the ante with a full speaker upgrade to MA al round (except sub) what would I need to spend to improve on the Onkyo TXSR806 receiver I currently use? More of a hypothetical question at present but....onwards and upwards!!

The micro cable will be fine - I use similar without any issue.

As for the receiver, it's a tough one. I need to upgrade mine realistically to hear the best of my speakers but I'm happy enough at the moment. I would see how you go first - it will sound excellent. I've not heard of your sub though? The RSW12 is a monster so I expect the new one to be the same - I reckon that could be the upgrade...

Thanks G, might experiment with upping the rear cables just to see if it makes a difference. I've had the same runs of Micro installed for about 5 years now! The Vibe sub was a bit of mistake, apparently Vibe are the DB's in the car audio for speakers/subs. It's not bad but just a little 'slow' in the bass. Would rather upgrade the receiver as I find that I don't rely that much on the sub for bass anyway with the MA speakers I've got.

Just wondering what I might get if sold the Onkyo and what I'd need to spend to get a decent improvement......see the new Onk gets a great review in the latest mag....if I'm going to upgrade then I'd definitely go for 3D ready....might hav to last 3-4 years and 3D might be a good option by then.

Seriously, if you think that your speakers are generating enough bass, you really need to change the sub. The RS5 is bass light compared to my RS6s and if I switch my sub off, it's a different ball game. The sub makes my AV sound.

I'll do some with/without listening tonight just to confirm. When I run Audyssey it always seems to pump up the sub too much and I have to turn it down. Listening room is only about 4 x 4.5 m2 so don't need a massive sub......

Try setting the speak as small, and have the crossover set at 100khz. And remember, it's not the amount of bass, it's the quality.
