Question for Clare Newsome - Speaker Package Help!!!

I am torn between the monitor audio RS1AV and the B&W 685 package. Can you please advise which one is best?

Depends on your room size, budget, rest of your system, kind of sound/delivery you like....

Budget wise around £1700, room size 12ft x 15 ft, Onkyo 606 receiver and I have not auditioned any yet! But I wanted to get your opinion first

My opinion? Both excellent products, but I worry either would a) overpower your size room and b) not be driven hard enough by your receiver.

Something slightly smaller scale (but no less capable at its price/spec) to consider is Tannoy's Mercury F1 Custom 5.1. Spend the difference on the rest of your system!

But do hear a wide range of speakers - preferably at home, or at least with the same receiver, and your room size in mind - before you buy anything.

Thanks Clare - Its just the current issue of WHF has paired the 685 package with the 606 receiver therefore I thought the receiver was powerful enough to drive the speakers, and I am just waiting delivery of the 606.

The 606 maybe fine with the B&Ws, but not enough for the MAs: they're more Onkyo 875 territory, as we note in a sound advice letter on p76 of our current issue.

As I say, IMO, in your size of room, the Tannoys - which we pair with the Onkyo in our Best Buys section on p26 of the issue - would be a better match.
