I own ATC scm40's and they are startlingly good speakers. There is nothing near the price to touch them in my opinion. Neutrality, power-handling and that hear-through quality missed by most. Couldn't recommend them more.

The equivalent speaker from that other pro-manufacturer (P**) cost almost twice the price (£3600)- an absolute disgrace! And uses a bought-in 75mm dome midrange (originally designed in 1979 by Billy Woodman of ATC) with tiny magnet assembly. I've seen a cut out of this loudspeaker showing the internals. This is intended to show off the transmission line tapered tube. All it did was highlight the cheap motor assemblies on the drivers.

Sorry, rant over. If you're purchasing two 909's then use one to drive the low frequency drivers alone.

Great choice. Cheers

The CDP2 has a preamp and digital inputs built in so you may want to consider if a separate preamp is required.....

Hi bianca

I have listened to most of the system (with one 909 though) and the Quad's work superbly with the SCM40's.

Btw, i have quite a few customers who are happily using ATC speakers with Quad electronics.

If you are fixed on the Quad system, which is a good one, do try and have a listen to a few speakers with that system. Speakers differ so largely that there will be speakers that some people just don't like.

Firstly, if you're looking at two 909's, you could consider going for the 909 monoblocks, depending on which speakers you're looking to drive. If you want to stick to the two stereo 909's, it would be tempting to use the funds from the second 909 to get some better speakers - you could always add a second 909 at a later date, which is how I would be tempted to approach the system.

If this is a possibility, you could also look at the Proac D28's, which have been an extremely popular speaker recently. Are you limited to floorstanders? You could try out the KEF Reference 201/2's, which work very well with a 909, and will improve immensely adding a second 909 later on. The Monitor Audio Platinum PL100's and the Tannoy Definition DC8's may also be worth a look too.

As mentioned in the previous post.....Tannoys are really good and I think underrated speakers...Any of the DC (dual concentric) range are worth a listen.
