Hi,

I've just brought a QED reference J2P cable for connecting my dac to my active speakers which only have a jack input (audioengine a5's)

I've noticed that the cable says its directinal and that it should be connected following the arrows printed on it (from jack to phono) for best sound performance. The only reason I got this cable is for connecting phono output to jack input.

Am I going to experience crappy sound quality beacuse i'm connecting it the wrong way round?

Hehe. 🙂 I am assuming you are kidding!
Those naughty little electrons flow better in one way than another? I don't think so. Hilarious!

Hey, cheers for the reply.

I wasn't kidding, im just a complete newbie! I just didnt want the thought in the back of my mind that it was a rubbish connection.

I dont understand why QED would say is was directional if it isnt. It doesnt seem like a good unique selling point, or even a particularly desirable feature for a wire.

It is more customary for these leads to be used the other way around (jack from iPod - for instance - to phono RCA amplifier inputs) which is why yours will have the jacket printed the way it is.

I wouldn't worry about the 'directionality'. I doubt QED would know for sure which way around this stuff is supposed to be if it weren't printed by their supplier.

And I doubt the supplier applies any special process in manufacturing to make the cable perform 'better' in any particular direction. They just print the markings whichever way they are paid to. (Maybe.)

Signals are AC in nature anyway, so they spend as much time on average going in both directions along both conductors.

The good thing about having a jack at one end, and phonos at the other, is that you are relieved of the burden of being able to do anything about it.

cheers chebby, you make good sence. Dont think I need to worry about it. I asked my mate who's a physicist at cambridge and he laughed in my face!

I think its just a case product differentiation, even if it is stupid. anyway cheers for the lesson, most appreciated!
