Do yoiu think the PZ85 is worth the extra money over the PZ80. I can get the 85 for £916 inc 5 year warranty from Costco and or the PZ80 for £799 from JL (less a 10% discount I can get through work). Regardless of the set I get, it will, when pennies permit, be hooked up to an Onkyo / Sony / Denon for sound so I guess that pretty much nullifies the sound feature benefits the PZ85? - so is it really worth the extra for the IFC - which seems to be of minmal benefit?

BTW, The PZ85 has vanished from the JL website for a couple of weeks now and I've noticed the prices creeping UP elsewhere recently - currys and comet both @ £999 and soundandvision have put the price up £50 as well recently.

Thanks

If you are going to be using an amp and are not bothered by the improved audio on the 85 then I would save your money and get the 80. On my 85 I have the IFC turned off, although I havn't tried it yet on Blu Ray. It's not worth the extra for the IFC alone, especially as many owners prefer it turned off.

I do have a Denon amp but I mostly use this for watching movies and Top Gear. The improved audio is handy for me for normal tv and of course late night viewing.

Also the 85 has a swivel stand which I don't think the 80 has.

I had the same problem as you. I went for the 85 in the end I wanted the IFC for blu ray, as above I have not yet seen the full benefits of it. The improved sound was also an issue as I have children and as much as they enjoy their DVD's I don't think they want to hear mine blasting out at 11 o'clock on a school night. The BBe ViVa sound is a pretty good compromise in my opinion.

I did have a few quality issues with my first TV but this was sorted out with S & V in the end! The picture quality is as great as you have been led to believe. I also choose the 85 over the 80 as I preferred the way it looks.

I have seen the 85 for sale at 1staudiovisual.co.uk for £889 today, I don't know anything about them, although they do look like a large company. Maybe some other members may have used them?

Thinking of getting the PZ85B but on the Which website it states that it is a very poor picture with SD, pictures are over processed. They gave 3/5 for picture quality which i thought was terrible, is it that bad?, also says it uses a huge amount of power, is it that bad a tv.

No the picture quality is not that bad, well not to me! I do a lot of Freeview viewing using it's digital tuner and the picture is fantastic. Some channels are better than others, as always it's the source that's the most important thing. When I watch movies on my ageing Teac dvd player the pictures are superb. The whole image has great depth and the clarity is astonishing, I was hoping that HD would be this good, when I do get my HD Freeview box and a Blu Ray player I think my eyes will be in for a real treat. Viewing distance is quite important on SD and I find sitting at 8ft from the screen is perfect for me.

The most important piece of advice I can give you is to get yourself down to a 'proper' dealer and use your eyes and see what you think. Remember these sites that are offering a review, it is in their considered opinion and you may feel differently. If you like it, buy it. If you don't look elsewhere and let your eyes make the decision.
