trying to connect these 2 . ps3 has digital optical output , whereas the digital optical inputs on the yamaha are labelled CD and CBL/DTV . the only digital input on the yamaha is digital coaxial and this is labelled DVD. i cant seem to get any sound form the PS3 when plugged into the CD or CBL/DTV sockets and im thinking it needs to go into the digital co axial labelled DVD on the yamaha, but obviously i cant

any ideas thanks

No, you can use any of the optical inputs on the Yamaha - you just have to make sure the optical input you use is assigned to the same selector button as the video input, assuming you're using the HDMI pass-through on the Yamaha to the TV. See page 31 of the manual.

he's right my optical lead is shared with my cdp so it stays in the cd in on the amp when hooked up to ps3 select cd on the amp and you even get the same audio options as dvd. also you have to change sound output manually on the ps3, goto sound settings and you should be able to select between hdmi, optical or multi out!!!
