Hello

Bought a PS3 80gb from Gamestation on Monday

The Box wasn't sealed properly, the tape was undone

The power cable had no protective covering on it

Does the PS3 have any protective film on it??? That you peel off

The guy at the shop was helpful and said that I can take it back for a rplacemant if I'm unhappy

But am i being anal, as the machine has no marks on it?? Just concerned that its been tampered with, or refurb

haha

It is that long ago that I bought my PS3 that I can't remember but if you go to youtube I'm sure you will find an 'unboxing PS3 80gb' video. I have never understood why they bother posting those vids or who bothers to watch them but this could be an legitimate reason!

Same for me - was years ago! I don't remember any protective film, but it should have been a sealed box and the PS3 I'm pretty sure was in a sealed polythene type bag.

haha yeah I'm being anal

The Unit was sealed in a bubble wrap film, though the plugged didn't have a three pin plug protector or wrapping around it...

Just hate buying things that make me question them!!!

Cheers

i think mine was in one of them tight fitting bags neatly folded and taped

if i was you i would take it back if somthing goes wrong in a month it will always be in the back of your mind.and then it will have to be sent away proberly for ages

If it's looks in perfect condition, and works okay, I'd probably keep it - although you could always contact Sony customer services to ask how it should be packaged - you could have an ex-display model or even a return (if you're really paranoid you could quote the serial number to Sony to ask if it's been in for repair!).

Hi. I used to manage a Sony Centre years ago and I'm afraid that there were many tricks used to sell off ex-display/refurbished stock etc... First thing to check is whether the serial numbers match on the machine, the box and (don't quote me on this)they sometimes include it on the warranty booklet. Also look at the screw heads on the machine - should be black with no mising paint or any burring. Finally cables should be tied neatly and usually in individual bags. With a PS3 it is also worth checking the browsing history as I bought mine off-display from another reputable retailer only to find that someone had been accessing some unsavoury websites - I had to check them ten times! Ha ha. Probably a bit late now but PS3's come with that lovely gloss black finish - look for smearing on the finish caused by ant-static foam spray invariably used to give a like new finish.

Hope this helps - Stokesy!

hmm interesting

Shall check the serial number etc. Where is the warranty sticker, Serial number located??

Also I didn't get a warrantly booklet.....

off topic but thought ps3 owners might be intrested the harmoney ps3 remote thingy is out 7th of august

back to topic sorry

I have a good few Sony products and you ALWAYS get a warranty book with them and the plugs are always covered. I assume you didnt get a discount for a possible display-model so I'd bring it back & scold them for being so cheeky! Leads are also always packed individually in taped bags. Sounds like they were definitely trying to get rid of a (slightly) used PS3. You wouldnt pay full price for used goods anywhere else would you?!
