My first player was the Pioneer BDP 120 - With this model some discs would freeze and and I would have to shut it off at the wall to reset it. It also wouldnt play the correct soundtrack for certain movies.

Finally It was swappes for the next one, the Pioneer BDP 320 -This player was given 5 stars by What hi Fi . It is a great player, my problem is that after only getting this Sep. 2010 the little blue light on the front of the player has gone.

Is anyone experienceng similar problems with Pioneer bluray players?

All players will have some issues because Bluray is an evolving format. There were problems like this with DVD players too. I had a disc that froze in my Pioneer, so I tried it in a Panasonic and a Sony - all had the same problem.

Purchased mine about 14 months ago now, had no problems with it so far either with lights or playback. I was toying with the idea of getting the Pio BDP120 but it had some bad write ups & reviews, so very happy with the 320.

If you only got in September ( new presumably ) contact where you purchased the player take it back, or send it, the player must be under guarantee.

No problems with playback on my BDP LX71, in fact I've been very impressed so far with how Pioneer have continued to provide firmware updates very quickly to make sure everything plays OK.

I have however also had one of the blue lights on the front panel fail. It doesn't really affect how well the player works, but it's annoying since it implies build quality isn't all it should be on a player that cost me £560-odd quid as I recall.

My Pioneer LX 70a may be getting on abit now, and it is slow to load up compared to my PS3, but the picture and sound is absolutely stunning !

I check for firmware updates regularly and apply when available. In the meantime if a new disc won't play then I slip it into the PS3 - which does a good job also.

As for build quality - then so far so good !

Cheers Si.

I had unmanageable problems with a Pioneer BDP LX71's playback of 50Hz PAL DVDs (not 60Hz NTSC or 24fps BluRay) a while back, suspiciously similar to some of the reports of 50Hz-only motion artifacts on 2010 Panasonic TVs.

These problems were also reported on other internet forums, and had not been fixed, despite several interim firmware updates, by the time I returned the unit for a full refund. All of the affected discs played cleanly on a much cheaper Panny BD unit.

I would be very interested to know if this problem has been dealt with on more recent Pioneer models, as performance and feature set were *otherwise* excellent 😉

I have had my PIONEER BDP-LX52 bd player for nearly a year now and it's performed brilliantly and i have had no issue's with it what so ever. All i have to say is that PIONEER do make some of the best bd player's out there.

Hi, I have a new Pioneer LX54 and have had a few problems with it. It can skip on CDs, when playing back even brand new disks with on surface marks to explain it.

It also as problems in playing several Blu-Ray discs. T2 Cyberdyne Addition (player freezes after language selection screen), Inception (Lip-sync at end of film) and Star Trek 2009 (Lip-sync at end of film). There may be more but they are the only ones I have experienced myself.
I also have a Sony BDP-S570 and this player works flawlessly with all my disks.

The last firm ware up date for the LX54 was on the 3-1-2011. These didn't solve any off my problems and there are still several features missing from the advertised spec list. This includes You-Tube and iControl (the feature that allows iPod control of the player).

I have contacted Pioneer to establish when the players spec-list will be complete but with no firm answers. I suspect that this model was released several months to early. Not the best way to build a GOOD reputation.
I not sure if it's even as good as the BDP-S570 anyway.
I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I've had the same problem when playing Inception on the Pioneer LX54 - the lip sync jumps miles out from time to time throughout the movie. I had to flick back to the start of the chapter to get it to re-synchronise.

You're being way too diplomatic here. Frankly DVD never had the sort of problems the Blu-ray software still has - to this day there is no decent resume feature on newer movies. As for BD-Live well does anybody use this stinkpoop?

He may be cynical but for once I can empathise with Lord Jobs when he calls Blu-ray a 'bag of hurt'.

Don't get me wrong though - I do have said player and enjoy the format.

Have a 320, and it's been excellent.

They are sensitive to marked and scratched discs, and there's something in the menu to change the brightness of the blue light, so you might be able to sort using that

Thanks for that, I will have to check the menu first before calling the shop where i bought the player. I wonder - could I have accidently turned the blue light off. Lets hope it is as simple as that. I dont think I could be without the player if it has too be sent back to pioneer

Thanks for the advice.

But there ere similar problems with DVD. Not as many, but then it wasn't evolving like Bluray has been. I had three DVD's (I know of) that didn't play on my Pioneer DV737, so this is nothing new.

I agree Bluray should be sorted out now, but we've seen numerous products from various manufacturers that are buggy as hell due to software issues.

I've watched a lot of Blurays, on Pioneers (BDPLX52), Panasonics (BD60), Sonys (BDPS350/BDPS5000) - other than the one I mentions that freezes on all of them, I only ever had my BD60 freeze up on my during verious films, but a software issue sorted that. Other than that, everything's been fine.

At work, I've only had a problem with Mamma Mia not being recognised on the LX54 - nothing else.

Any luck with the blue light?

Another known issue with 320s is with the Terminator 2 Skynet Edition blu ray, very, VERY slow at loading.

Not in menu, there's a button on the remote (FL DIMMER) near the top on the right, try that.

Add get him to the Greek to the list of disks that the LX54 won't play. Massive lip sync problems from the start.
