Out of interest, any chance you could let us know what/which tweaks the "guy from audio shop" made to improve the picture quality?

Thanks.

Cofnchtr:Hi,

Just got a Pioneer 320 from Edinburgh - watching on 2 year old Panasonic HD ready TV. Picture is stunning and a noticeable upgrade from the PS3 - feeding a non HD amp, the sound and steering of effects is better also. Even the OH has noticed.

Tried a demo of both the Sony 760 and this Pioneer at the shop (Home Cinema Centre) and thought the Pioneer was better than the Sony.

Just need to go back in a few months time and get myself an HD amp now...

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

I assume your PS3 was used with its basic mains cable and no conditioning?

Hi,

You assume correctly - as is the Pioneer 320 now - just basic mains cable - no conditioning. So all things being equal, an improvement.))

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

I upgraded from a PS3 to 320 - both running off aBT mains conditioner (but mains cables not upgraded, although I use them elsewhere in my system). On my 32" hd-ready tv the improvement in PQ is noticeable, but not jaw-dropping (a limitation of the tv I think, which is producing the best picture it can imho - see below). The improvement in sound quality is very impressive though, especially with HD sound - so much more weight and a far better integration across the front 3 speakers.

With regards to PQ, I demo'd the 320 against a PS3 and whatever model Sony had out at the time (I forget which) in-store (so no mains conditioning etc) on a 50" Kuro, and the improvement in PQ was substantial - colour depth being the most memorable improvement.

Was the outlay worth the degree of improvement? Arguably not on the 32" Panny, but I'm looking to get a 42-47" full hd set within the next few months, and on that basis I'm more than pleases with the improvement the 320 offers over the PS3, with or without mains conditioning.

See, youve demoed with conditoning on a 32"ready tv. the pioneer demo im not too chuffed about as the ps3 definitely performs better with a decent mains supply (Which is certainly wont have got in the shop)

Different sources can also send different signals (Especially where 'gamma' is concerned), and with mine properly calibrated with greyscale etc I honestly done think im going to see any real differences. Though im definitely sure HD sound would sound far better with my amp decoding it (Which I cant with my PS3)

Cheers for your personal experience though ~ ive certainly taken it on board

Hi,

What are you using to clean the supply, how much does this type of upgrade cost? I once heard a demo of 2 hi-fi systems where one had a liquid on the electrical contacts and one didn't. Theory was a better contact was being made by the liquid. I could hear a difference between the systems but when I heard the liquid was £60 for a small bottle I walked away.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

My braided mains cable was approx 45 quid (Due to a 'bulk' discount)

My Isotek Mira was 150 quid (Though I believe its more like 175 now). My Isotek Sigmas is......oooo......nearly a grand? (Bought mine 2nd hand off ebay)

Bear in mind ALL my equipment is plugged through the sigmas and I do have some pretty high end components (My av amp is approx 2.5k to buy now and the power amp was 1800 or so to buy new ~ obviously I never payed anything like those prices though)
