Ok - I am have a few teething problems configuring my system since I hooked it up to the Denon.

Initially, the Denon switched to standby as soon as I selected the freeview, but I seem to have got around this. The problem now is that when I just want to watch standard freeview, I get no audio through the amp/speakers. I know I'm not going to get amazing surround sound, but I was expecting something. I can't seem to find anything in the manual which addresses this porblem. At some stage in the near future I will get Sky HD or Virgin put in and I guess that will sort everthing, but in the meantime, I just want a simple solution. Can anyone give me some tips on what I need to do please? Cheers.

(PS - the blu-ray works fine and sounds/looks fantastic!)

Kit so far:

Denon AVR-1910

Jamo A102HCS5 surround sound speakers

Sony KDL40W5500

Sony BDPS300 Blu Ray

Yes, I'm using the integrated tuner. I have HDMI cable going from Denon out 'Monitor' to the TV (which has 4 HDMI sockets).

i had this exact same problem yesterday, but worked out the same thing - there wasn't an output going from the tv to the amp - just an output from the amp to the tv.

classic homer style "d'oh!" moment... :)

daveh75:Well you need to run an optical cable from the Sonys digital optical output to an optical input on the Denon to get sound from the TV playing through the Denon/Speakers!

@daveh75. Many thanks. I got the same answer when I asked in Richer Sounds. So next question is any recommenations for a good performing cable - at the cheaper end of the market!

I have just bought one from Audio Visual Online (http://www.audiovisualonline.co.uk) - they delivered it the next day with special delivery - all for about a tenner. I got the Fisual Digital Optical Cable - Pro Install Series.

One comment though - I ordered the 1m cable and it was only 85cm length of cable - so go longer rather than shorter!

As it's a digital optical cable, you don't need to spend much on it (like HDMI cables - about £5 is fine). Have had many an argument about this, and the proof is in the quality of picture/sound on my system.

Hi guys,

I feel kind of stupid as you have solved the issue, but I can't.

I was using my 1910 with BT vision box connected through HDMI,

so didn't have this problem, but I recently cancelled the subscription

and I am trying to get the TV sound through the amp, but no joy yet.

I have connected the TV (LG infinia) optical out to the opt 1 in of the amp,

played around with all the setting on the TV and the amp, still nothing.

Anyone to my rescue please?

Thanks in advance.

Regards
