Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 Genie Acrylic Platter

Hello Hi-Fi friends,

i own a Lenco L-3807 TT which is a copy of Technics SL-1210 MK II, it's equiped with the Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge and I am thinking of upgrading to Pro-Ject RPM 1.3 Genie with Acrylic Platter and the Ortofon 2M Blue also.

The rest of my system is:
Amplifier: Pioneer SA-706 https://tomsaudio.wordpress.com/amplifier/
Speakers: Pioneer HPM-60 https://tomsaudio.wordpress.com/loudspeakers/

I mainly listen to Jazz, Fusion and some Rock and Hard Rock, buying old japanese pressings and time-to-time some new 180g remasters. My question is, if this new TT would be a great advance in listening and audio quality? Thanks for your responds, Tom.

If you had a Technics SL1210 MKII then I would say probably very little improvement. However, if you can increase your budget to a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon or the Rega RP1 PP both fitted with Ortofon Blue then the answer would probably be yes, (the Pro-Ject comes with the Ortofon Red fitted, which is a good cartridge and shares the same body as the Blue). I bought a Pro-Ject Debut Carbon last year and it was an amazing turntable for the money.

However, I recently purchased a Pioneer PLX1000, (Technics 12** clone), and fitted an Ortofon Black cartridge to it and then sold the Pro-Ject turntable. Why? Because I adore the principle of direct drive and the Pioneer is just a stunning looking turntable, and performs perfectly for my requirements.

My advice would be to see if you can find a hi-fi store where you can demo turntables.

I have a Project Début Carbon Esprite. It has an acrylic plater - it came with an Ortofon 2m red. But I upgraded to the blue. Love this turntable - listening to it right now - Beatle's Help Mono 180g pressing; over and over. Lonely sound.
