Hi,

I am buying a second hand Pro-ject Debut III for a Christmas present. The person I'm getting it for only has a Panasonic mini hifi system at the mo (like a three tower job - CD and two speakers). I know its not ideal and I'm sure he'll invest in a proper setup at some point but I'm just wondering if there's anything else I need to get just to make sure it actually works for now. Will I need to get a pre-amp? Anything else? I dont have much of a budget so just want to get the basics now so that it actually functions and he can spend money on upgrading anything later ;)

Thanks for your help!

All you should need is a phono preamp and a set of RCA cables. You should get a cheap phono preamp for £20-£30 or so.I would also check the panasonic has a set of RCA inputs to plug the turntable into.

Some phono stage pre amps don't come with RCA leads supplied - I have fallen into that trap before (serves me right for ignoring the sales guy trying to tell me the extras)
