Prefer ASIO4ALL to WASAPI...?

I had left my foobar on WASAPI for the last few weeks and found myself constantly thinking "I remember my stereo sounding better than this..." . A quick switch back to ASIO driver brought things back. Not sure why there is a difference as they both should be playing bitperfect versions but everything is clearer with ASIO, the bass, the treble.. Anyone else notice this? Or am I dreaming?

You're dreaming: as so many posters here and elsewhere will tell you, they can't possibly sound different, as 'digits is digits'...

Hey Andrew, tell that to your colleagues who hear differences between digital cables!

I may be hearing things, or maybe software works in different ways than its supposed to.

Chainrock - if you have a few minutes free sometime, perhaps you could talk us through installing ASIO and getting it to work with Foobar?

tractorboy,

I remember ASIO setup was not as straightforward, but it was a while ago so I can't exactly recall all the steps. I ended up installing ASIO4ALL to use with winamp as well.

If you only use Foobar, then download the ASIO plug-in on foobar's website:

Let me know if this doesn't work for you.

Got it, thanks. A few minutes of faffing and then suddenly the 44.1kHz lit up on the DacMagic.

Jury's still out on whehter it affects the sound quality - I'm in a listening to music mood tonight rather than an A-B testing mood, so I haven't compared. It certainly sounds stunning playing The Whitest Boy Alive at the moment though.
