Hi all,

How should I position my rear speakers? They are on the very back of the room (as is my sofa) so as far as I know there are few options. What's more I What HIFI team in their howTo video suggest the positioning differently to the dobly.com website. Dolby says it should be positioned towards the listener while What HiFi team said that is shouldn’t. So what is the best arrangement? Also positioning them towards the wall would create more sound reflection which might also be desirable or not? or maybe on some angle?

Please tell me how I should position them befor

Personally I would go for the third option and angle them towards the listening position. What type of speakers are they?? Are they traditional or bipole/dipole??

I used to have Mission dipoles and I had them on the rear wall as the drivers fired either side.

For traditional speakers the sound would be projected forward away from the listening position which is why I would put them on the side walls.

Is there chance of moving the sofa out from the back wall (even a little bit)? I'm sorry if it would mess up your room, but it would help matters considerably on the sound front.

That's how I have mine. Play around with the angle of the speakers at the same time you're setting the speaker levels to find what works best with the acoustics of your room.

If you're using Audyssey or the like to do an auto setup, use that as a starting point and adjust levels manually until you're completely happy. A cheap sound level meter is handy, but not essential - use your ears above all else to set the levels.

Thanks for all responses,

I have tandard speakers at the rear - Tannoy RS DC4 on stands o no chance of having them above the head level. They are about the head level on the stands. Should they be at the back end of the sofa or rather on the sides? The sofa i preatty deep so I can place them just behind (but then I think the head-rest would block the sound), or exactly on the side o if you turn your head left or right you would see the speaker. What do you guys think?
