Hi

Just like to ask the best recommendations for stands for the PMC DB1i's?

Was thinking of the Partington Super Dreads as they seem the right width.

Really like the build and look of the Partington Broadsides but would they be just to big for the PMC's?

Like some feedback on maybe what people have used or recommendations for a quality stand with the right size top plate that won't "drown" the speaker?

Thanks.....

Have heard them on Castle stands, Atacama stands and Super dreads. Sound lurvely on all of them. So much so I have just got a set. Planning to use my Atacama Nexus 5i stands with the gel isolators. 🙂

I think they would look very silly on a pair of broardsides, when I had a demo of my neutons (about the same size as the db1) they were on broadsides and they looked like they had been minaturised! I think if you dont mind the look of the regular dreadnaughts you cant go far wrong.

Personally I would check the footprint of the speaker is slightly bigger than the base plate of the stand but that is just my preference for asthetic reasons, my neutrons are just a bit bigger and I think they look good!

Mine are on Super Dreadnoughts and they sound great. Much better than on Nexus 6 that I had when I first got the speakers. The thing no one has mentioned is the height of the DB1's - to get the tweeter at ear-level you may need taller stands.

Thanks everyone...

This was something i was thinking of as well with regard to the height - i am swaying towards the Super Dreads but at 600mm height, would that be ok for a normal sitting listening position? Or would it be better to maybe go for one of the Atacama options where i can get a 700mm or higher height?

Thanks everyone...

Depends upon how low your normal listening position is. I tend to try and get the tweeters in line with my ears if possible. So measure that distance when sitting. Subtract the height of the speaker (29cm) and you will have your required stand height. 🙂

Thanks...think the Super Dreads at 600mm will be spot on - decision made

Just a final question re the Super Dreadnoughts and the DB1i's... did you feel a need to fill them at all and if so how much? I've seen contrasting opinions with no fill vs 75% fill vs completely filled.... just wondered on how these stands react with these particular speakers...?

Purely depends upon personal taste. Try them for a week with nothing in. If the bass is not tight enough then 1/2 fill each stand with kiln dried sand from B&Q etc. Listen again, has the bass tightened up? Is is better than no fill? If the bass has not slowed down then you could try adding more. Would agree though no more than 3/4 full. Its about balancing the tightness ans speed of the bass (more sand = tighter but edging towards slower bass).
